Smocks of Love, a Heartstrings Ministry

We are thankful for the opportunity to partner with MD Anderson to minister to ladies who are battling breast cancer.  We are now making "Smocks of Love" for patients to wear during their radiation treatments. Previously, the patients wore hospital gowns.  Smocks of Love now allows women to have treatments and expose only the area that needs radiation.  This helps them keep their dignity, provides warmth and is more comfortable.  Smocks of Love is a sign that someone cares about them on their difficult journey.

Each patient is given a large Ziploc bag with their personal smock to keep and a card from our church.  On this card, we have encouraging words, share our church information and invite the patient to our church for prayer.  Per MD Anderson's request, we are making 6 - 10 smocks a month. We take pre-made smocks and modify them with Velcro closures on the sides and in the front of each gown.

Thank you Smocks of Love Team for your dedication to this ministry.

If you are interested in this ministry, we would love your help.  Volunteers are needed to help sew, shop for fabric or deliver the smocks to MD Anderson.  We all can have the opportunity to pray with them should the patient decide to visit our church.

Our co-coordinator for Smocks of Love is Eunice Van Pelt.  Eunice is a great seamstress with a big heart.  She will work with you in the areas you feel best fit your time and talents.  Her # is 281-479-3084.

Thanks to this ministry staff for your help in these areas:

Cut out smock with the pattern provided

Sew the smocks

Shop for fabric

Bag the smocks

Stamp "Smocks of Love" inside

Place cards from our ministry in each bag

Deliver the smocks to MD Anderson

Just to be clear, these are smocks for patients that have been diagnosed with breast cancer and will enter into a series of treatments.  Our smocks are given to each patient for them to keep throughout their journey of treatments.

This is a great opportunity to reach out to women in a very low time of their life and show we care and most of all a chance to minister to them in prayer.

These smocks have Velcro on the sides and down the front allowing exposure and keeping coverage as much as possible during their treatments.  I think we can all agree this would make the process just a little less painful and humiliating.

Please contact Eunice Van Pelt for any further questions or sign up for this ministry.  Again, her phone number is:  281-479-3084.

If you would like to contribute to this ministry, please do so at our online giving link here.  There is an option to give to Ladies Ministry.
