Smocks of Love, a Heartstrings Ministry

We are thankful for the opportunity to partner with MD Anderson to minister to ladies who are battling breast cancer.  We are now making "Smocks of Love" for patients to wear during their radiation treatments. Previously, the patients wore hospital gowns.  Smocks of Love now allows women to have treatments and expose only the area that needs radiation.  This helps them keep their dignity, provides warmth and is more comfortable.  Smocks of Love is a sign that someone cares about them on their difficult journey.

Each patient is given a large Ziploc bag with their personal smock to keep and a card from our church.  On this card, we have encouraging words, share our church information and invite the patient to our church for prayer.  Per MD Anderson's request, we are making 6 - 10 smocks a month. We take pre-made smocks and modify them with Velcro closures on the sides and in the front of each gown.

Thank you Smocks of Love Team for your dedication to this ministry.

If you are interested in this ministry, we would love your help.  Volunteers are needed to help sew, shop for fabric or deliver the smocks to MD Anderson.  We all can have the opportunity to pray with them should the patient decide to visit our church.

Our co-coordinator for Smocks of Love is Eunice Van Pelt.  Eunice is a great seamstress with a big heart.  She will work with you in the areas you feel best fit your time and talents.  Her # is 281-479-3084.

Thanks to this ministry staff for your help in these areas:

Cut out smock with the pattern provided

Sew the smocks

Shop for fabric

Bag the smocks

Stamp "Smocks of Love" inside

Place cards from our ministry in each bag

Deliver the smocks to MD Anderson

Just to be clear, these are smocks for patients that have been diagnosed with breast cancer and will enter into a series of treatments.  Our smocks are given to each patient for them to keep throughout their journey of treatments.

This is a great opportunity to reach out to women in a very low time of their life and show we care and most of all a chance to minister to them in prayer.

These smocks have Velcro on the sides and down the front allowing exposure and keeping coverage as much as possible during their treatments.  I think we can all agree this would make the process just a little less painful and humiliating.

Please contact Eunice Van Pelt for any further questions or sign up for this ministry.  Again, her phone number is:  281-479-3084.

If you would like to contribute to this ministry, please do so at our online giving link here.  There is an option to give to Ladies Ministry.

A Table in the Wilderness First Annual Event!

This year we originally planned to do a clothing boutique for needy women.  Once we completed our major ladies spring banquet, we found ourselves totally out of time to make this event happen as planned as working with clothing, making sure we had all sizes needed, etc. would be a daunting task.

We came up with what we felt would be a great alternative.  Although there are many ladies outside our our church with strong needs, this year, we felt we wanted to bless the ladies within our own church family that was going through a wilderness season in their lives.

Sis. Sciscoe helped us identify 30 ladies that would benefit from our TIW event this year.  Our TIW team came up with the idea to bless these ladies with a gorgeous gift bag of personal toiletry items and a box of cleaning supplies.  We also decided that we wanted to provide a nice lunch for them and offer encouragement.  A fabulous tea was provided by Michelle Coats and her team.

Sis. Sciscoe and myself were the main  speakers along with our new member, Sis. Dallas, former missionary wife and Dixie Christian, leading us in a questionnaire for a talent search.

We are so thankful for the presence of God and His face smiling over this event.  I truly feel this ministry will grow and be blessed for years to come.

30 boxes FILLED with cleaning supplies!

Our very own Table in the Wilderness.  This table was handcrafted by Kenny Pierce of Life Tabernacle.  It was auctioned to the highest bidder, Dixie Christian and proceeds went for Ima's Home for Children.  Dixie says it has been in her home waiting for it's purpose.  Our table represents a nature "wilderness" theme and how God can take the hard seasons in our lives and make them beautiful.

The Menu:

Sandwiches

Cucumber
Egg salad/ham
Almond butter
Pimento cheese

Scones

Cranberry orange with whipped cream

Desserts

Coconut Macaroons
French Macaroons
Tea cakes
Tea time tassies
Lemon bars

Beverages
Iced peach tea
Iced raspberry tea
Coffee

If you would like to serve as a team member for next year's event, there is always plenty to do to be a part.

Smocks of Love, a new "Heartstrings" ministry

This is the letter our pastor's wife has for our review on this ministry:

"Smocks of Love"

Our ladies have been given the opportunity to partner with MD Anderson to minister to ladies who are battling breast cancer.  We would be making "Smocks of Love" for patients to wear during their radiation treatments.  Currently, the patients wear hospital gowns.  Smocks of Love will allow the women to have treatments and expose only the area that needs radiation.  This helps them keep their dignity, provides warmth and is more comfortable.  Smocks of Love is a sign that someone cares about them on their difficult journey.

Each patient is given a large Ziploc bag with their personal smock to keep and a card from our church.  On this card, we can put encouraging words, share our church information and invite the patient to our church for prayer.  MD Anderson has requested that we make 6 - 10 smocks a month. We will be taking pre-made gowns and modifying them with Velcro closures on the sides and in the front of each gown.

To make this happen, we need ladies who care that are wiling to donate a little of their time and talents.

Some may shop, others may sew, others may be willing to deliver the smocks to the hospital and all of us may get the opportunity to pray with them should the patient decide to visit our church.

Eunice Van Pelt has offered to coordinate this effort.  She is a great seamstress with a big heart.  She will work with you in the areas you feel best fit your time and talents.  Her # is 281-479-3084.

Thank you.

Sis. Kimberly Sciscoe
Pastor's Wife of The Church Triumphant

After our first announcement this Sunday morning, we had a first initial meeting with several ladies in attendance.  We have a sign up sheet that gives you a chance to donate your time in these areas:

Cut out smock with the pattern provided

Sew the smocks

Shop for fabric

Bag the smocks

Stamp "Smocks of Love" inside

Place cards from our ministry in each bag

Deliver the smocks to MD Anderson

Just to be clear, these are smocks for patients that have been diagnosed with breast cancer and will enter into a series of treatments.  Our smocks will be given to each patient for them to keep throughout their journey of treatments.

This is a great opportunity to reach out to women in a very low time of their life and show we care and most of all a chance to minister to them in prayer.

These smocks will have Velcro on the sides and down the front allowing exposure and keeping coverage as much as possible during their treatments.  I think we can all agree this would make the process just a little less painful and humiliating.

We will be creating our own logo to match all other Heartstrings ministries.  We want to design our enclosure card that will represent this ministry well.

Please contact Eunice Van Pelt for any further questions or sign up for this ministry.  Again, her phone number is:  281-479-3084.

Once we are in  full swing, we will set up our own online site allowing people to contribute monetarily to this cause and give more exposure to this ongoing ministry.

Thank you for your interest and any time you may want to contribute to this cause.
